I don't live there, but we go there as often as we can. Tell your son to take his bicycle. There are beautiful trails along the water front and all over the area. Absolutely beautiful area. Always something going on in the area. Except for the summer tourist traffic, you'd about have to be dead not to love the area and everything about it.
We pull in a TV station from there. From the news, not much in the way of crime for the population of the area. Funny thing is, when I was a kid, if somebody said ''You're gonna drive me to Traverse City'', it meant they were driving you crazy. There was a state mental hospital there and that was about all they were known for. I believe that facility is luxury condos now.
I know I said area a lot, but that's how you have to look at it, the whole Grand Traverse Bay region. The town is nice, but all along the lake shore, around the bay, up through the Tunnel of Trees, it's all indescribably beautiful. If there's ever a minute that a person is bored there, you're just not trying.

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
