Attracting "new blood" is a problem with just about any activity or organization. There are many reasons.
Could be the people, as mentioned earlier. The old pharts bellyache about how no young people are interested, when they're the ones driving the young people away with their poor social skills, cranky natures, and bad attitudes.
Could be the perception of the activity. Take plowing competition for example. The perception of that is, stuffy overdressed old Englishmen putt-putting across the field on weird old tractors you've never heard of, pulling weird old plows you've never heard of. Then some other stuffy overdressed old Englishman comes along with a clipboard and a stick, pokes the stick in the ground, takes some notes, and moves on. Wow. How could young people NOT want to do that? Seriously.
Sometimes you just have to face the reality that it's an activity that nobody wants to do anymore. The people that used to participate have either lost interest or gotten too old, and it's so far removed from the younger generations that they have no interest in it.
Even if there were plowing competitions around here, I would not attend or participate because it's of no interest to me. If someone were to have one of those crazy "speed plowing" competitons, on the other hand, I might have to check that out.

Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father
