Its farm show season. Listening to Agri-Talk yesterday and they were interviewing a regional machinery rep. His comment was that the inventories are better now than previously. He also commented that one of the dealers he covers commented that sales seemed slow because the inventory now had equipment sitting on his lot for one to two months where previously the lot was empty which he realized was a false impression.
Another sales rep was interviewed at a more local farm show and again commented that they now have more inventory then the previous two years, but if you are looking for a specific piece and need to order it you can expect a 12-14 month lead time.
One thing mentioned in Agri-Talk was that the active machinery fleet is the oldest its been in five years. The way I understood this was the overall average age of the equipment in production is getting older than before. He then commented that the average was 5-6 years old which surprised me and made me wonder how they gather there numbers. Could we not assume that the farm fleet will be always getting older on average? Do they not factor in the equipment after xx number of years? It appears they do not factor in all the equipment discussed on this site.
