I bought a 1955 Ford 960 last spring. It had a leaky power steering pump which was an Eaton pump as Joe had described. I went through quite a learning experience trying to identify the pump and find parts. I found that Eaton had made similar pumps that were used for Ford tractors as well as for Ford, Studebaker, AMC and other brands of cars and trucks. The major differences that I noticed was that the reservoir on the Ford 960 tractor pump was mounted to the body of the pump at an angle (not on a horizontal surface). I'm guessing that the pump was especially made for the Ford tractors because of where it was mounted under the edge of the fuel tank. The rebuild parts for the tractor pump seemed to be the same as those for Ford cars and trucks of the same vintage.
Apparently the Thompson 1072 pumps have been used on other Ford Tractors. I don't know if they were ever original equipment, add-on kits, or just used as replacements.
On my 960 the Eaton power steering pump was really crammed into the front corner of the tractor. I can't even imagine how a person would deal with making brackets to fit some other model into such a tight space. If your old pump functioned, perhaps it could be rebuilt? Searching the internet, there seem to be places that specialize in rebuilding pumps for vintage vehicles. Perhaps they could provide some suggestions.
