A week or two ago, I posted about needing a rear wheel rim for my M Farmall.
It was suggested I try a fellow in Hickman, Nebraska, about 30 miles or so from me. I tried. Apparently the only way to contact him is on Facebook.
I posted a message on his Facebook page asking him if he had a rear wheel rim for an M Farmall. His reply was one word, 'Yes'.
I posted another message asking him how much and how could we get together on it. It was about 4 days before he posted another one word answer, '$100'. No actual contact info, or info about his exact location, etc.
Yesterday I happened to stop at the parts department of our local Case IH dealer and asked a parts man if he happened to know of any place where I might get a rear wheel rim for an M. Without hesitating, he said K&K Repair in Ulysses, NE, and wrote down the phone number. That's about 20 miles from me, and when the parts man mentioned it I remembered driving past the place once.
I called K&K and the fellow said he would have one. By pure coincidence on another errand I drove within 2 miles of K&K with my pickup this afternoon so I swung in. The fellow hopped onto a loader tractor, drove around behind the shop, and withing a few minutes came back with a rim hanging on the loader. Good solid rim, just needs a little cleaning up.
He charged me $150, but I figured for the extra $50 it was a 'bird in the hand', and I didn't have to try dealing with the guy by Hickman.

Today's Featured Article - Grain Threshing in the Early 40's - by Jerry D. Coleman. How many of you can sit there and say that you have plowed with a mule? Well I would say not many, but maybe a few. This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
