In May of 1970 i bought a new Ford F 250 two wheel drive V8 four speed with the west coast mirrors A M radio , rear helper springs , spare tire and wheel and a step bumper for out the door of 1950 bucks , Learned to hate that truck . Ev erywhere ya went off hard pavement you were Stuck . added a Detroit locker for 475 bucks , not much help , put on new Firestone super all traction mud and snows in 7.50x16's again not much help , added in a solid 4x4 billet of iron between the frame rails in the rear , again not much help , added in a 1 inch thick plate to reinforce the step bumper and trailer hitch . Changed back tires once again and still on a warm DRY summer day in a flat hay field you were Stuck . Sold it the following spring . In the fall of 72 i bought a new F 250 4X4 This one had a little more options , like a C 6 Automatic ( my first Automatic ) it had power steering and power brakes , It had the west coast tow mirrors , the Hd sup. it had the traction lock rear and traction loc. ft. , lock out hubs step bumper , A m radio , cab lights, , and the high out put HEATER that would reflow your rubber boots on a -35 degree night and a 7foot 6 inch Western snow plow with power angle and the super cool rad. and trans cooler pkg. and the out the door price now on this one was 4000 even. , Next new truck was the sun kissed Lemon 1978 F 250 4X4 that never even made it home to the house the first night and had to be towed back to the dealer and i had just handed them 10,217.36 in CASH for . This truck brought out my PTSD and the many battles we had with Ford , Between the engine failures , the transmission failure rear end problems , exploding power steering pumps , ft axle needle bearings and outer shaft problems and Alt. failures and a nagging dead short in the electrical system and we won't go into the problems with the Myers snow plow that came with the truck , it never gave you a bit of problem till it snowed . That was my last NEW truck . back then they only had a 12000 mile or one year warranty and in that time they put two engines in it five transmissions one transfer case five traction loc rear ends two sets of ft. axle needle bearings ans stub shaft , five power steering pumps seven alt. and still never found the dead short that would just up and kill everything then go away and all was well. . the first year that truck spent 7 months setting in the service dept .and many vary bad heated discussions and even a major confrontation at the regional Ford office before things started to try and be fixed , this was just before the LEMON LAWS went into affect . Once out of warranty and it was now all in my lap, i took tow weeks and tore into it myself and made changes . Being a at one time a Ford master tech i get into the transmission and made changes and built a HD C 6 , the 400 M engine went to become Toyota parts or a boat anchor . In went a hand built 460 built on 1970 spec.'s the traction loc problems were solved with a Detroit locker two simple grease fittings solved the needle bearing problems along with four holes drilled into the spindles so grease could get to the axle stubs and go out to the outer needle bearing . I now got five more years out of that truck before the ft. clutch pac let go in th trans mission and just 94 and change and 6 hours fixed it . And all was well till we got hit head on .

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
