The FL1A filter has been used on more Ford cars & trucks than ANY other filter ever made. Engine Masters on Motor Trend TV tested the Ford original and most of the equivalents made by other brands and they all performed pretty close to the same. And much to the surprise of the Engine Masters test team, even the tiny little filters GM is fond of using now days actually filters as much oil and flows as many GPM with similar low pressure drop and removes as much dirt as a full size FL-1A. So as long as any variation of an FL1A screws onto the filter mount there shouldn't be a problem. I did switch my filter of choice for my 2018 RAM 1500 with 5.7L Hemi, and by the way, all Three Engine Master guys switched their preferred filter to the same brand, the K&N Premium Gold . It has the finest mesh filter media, filters out small particles, has the least pressure drop due to no restriction, and has the best combination of design features inside the filter, and also the only filter with a stamped and formed hex nut spot welded on the end away from the base to improve install & remove ease. The filter on my 5.7L is actually fairly accessible but I normally use a large pair of Channelocks to remove the filter and a strap wrench to install it, now I can use a 1/2 ratchet and extension and a 3/4 socket.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
