Hi my brother has a 3230 and is the same tractor as the 3220 but with the larger D-206 engine. We had to do a clutch replacement on it a year ago as one of the finger adjustment screws on the pressure plate unscrewed itself and we had to split it to fix but the clutch was almost wore out so we did a complete clutch, pressure plate and bearing replacement.
From your description of the problem, I would think that item #5 pin has fallen out or sheared off allowing item #19 to spin in item #4 clutch fork. With a worn clutch item #19 with turn freely almost half a turn, about 2 O'clock to 5 o'clock if I recall correctly but will not do a complete turn. Have you looked up through the inspection plate on the bottom of the clutch housing? I would not worry too much about the broken spring as it's only purpose is to hold a small down pressure on the clutch pedal as item #2 the throughout bearing rides on item #28 thrush washer that fits into the fingers on the pressure plate and the throughout bearing turns all the time. The old 74/84 models had a spring on the clutch pedal that held the clutch pedal in the up position and the throughout bearing only turned when the clutch pedal was depressed and the bearing contacted the pressure plate fingers.
