In my opinion this is a winter project, bad bearings or gears are causing it to pop out of gear. As for your PTO the Cub does not have a live PTO so the clutch has to be pushed and the tractor stopped to engage it otherwise during engagement it will just grind. If you mean it grinds constantly when engaged this again will be bad bearings or gears.
