thanks for the great info. if i understand, the link you provided gave me 3 JD part numbers and 2 casting numbers R53240 and R55100, i have seen these casting numbers in my research before but no attached JD #.
i believe my old unit was like the 1st motor generation? but it seems to be the oldest stuff i can find. i was told the original jd # was 877 846 8243. research finds 2 of what appears to be the same motors except one has o-rings in the sleeve and the other o-rings are in the block. not necessarily trying to keep everything original. just really looking for a form, fit, function sort of thing and was just kind of looking for any/all motors that i could fit up. got no reason i couldn't use any motor that i could find that would fit. the machine shops i have found (2) that would work with me are at least 8 weeks out they say. and it seemed in my research so far that maybe motors out of 820, 1020, 300, or 350 might fit and Tx Jim says 820/830 would fit. when this started i was looking for a compatibility list that would say what fits were, didn't know if one existed or not, I'm new to this world but have seen them used in other places. everyone i have talked to so far wants to sell me only the exact same block # part (cause i think they don't know what will fit, just like me right now)
it's a project frame no wires, no instruments, lights, ignition switch, etc. so a free hand can be had by one and all. too long bob thanks all.
