Finished planting for the year today, coincidentally the same day I finished last year. I did use the 1030 to plow the first part, but it developed a miss, so I quit using it. It has had a weak cylinder since I overhauled it and I've been trying to find the cause. This winter I had the injection pump and injectors re-built, but that wasn't it. The only possibility left is a head issue. I'll pull the head and check it out now. So that meant the 830 and 400 took the work on. That was fine as I needed to get the 830 broke in after the overhaul. It runs great and pulls good. Oil pressure runs at 40 working and inky drops to 30-35 at idle hot. That's right where it should be. Pulled the 4-16s in heavy ground with steep hills just fine.

Handled the 14' disc as well. The 4 section harrow hooked behind was quite a load in the sandy fields with hills, but it did it.

The 400 was used on the harrow and the model D grain drill this year.

Used the 830 to plant corn. I like the 400 for that, but the hydraulics is getting weak so the 830 got the job. It's nicer to drive, but not as nice when you have to get on and off to fill the planter.

Things went well this year with no major breakdowns. I never even got stuck this year, that is unusual around here. But then I've been working on the ditches every year and they are getting to work pretty well. I was even able to plant this low spot this year for the first time, that is in spite of the being wetter over all this year.

This is behind the barn this morning after I finished.

Hay is looking good and should be starting first crop in a couple weeks. If anyone has or knows where a Case 555 haybine is, I'm looking for one. Closer to mn the better.

Today's Featured Article - Usin Your Implements: Bucket Loader - by Curtis Von Fange. Introduction: Dad was raised during the depression years of the thirties. As a kid he worked part time on a farm in Kansas doing many of the manual chores. Some of the more successful farmers of that day had a new time saving device called a tractor. It increased the farm productivity and, in general, made life easier because more work could be done with this 'mechanical beast'. My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea
