Take the bearing in your hands and try to push and pull the inner race sideways against the outer. That will be your bearings looseness. Then stack all the pieces and measure them then measure the length of the shaft with the journals locating the distances this should give you a pretty close idea of how tight things are sideways or the end play. I would expect enplay to be in the thousands new or slightly more certainly not a 1/4 inch though. I would also believe there must be some shims in there to adjust the clearance on it.
