If it were going on my home I wouldn't be looking to be so cheap. I would want to pick the color, style and get the ones that last as long as possible. The house this is going on is a rental and the color (Dove Grey?) doesn't determine the rent charged. As I said I'm on the 20 year plan - in 20 years I'll be 75 and I can guarantee I will not own that rental anymore (if still alive) - but there is a real good chance I'll still be living in my house.
I will check a bundle on the bottom of the pile to see if they are brittle and stuck together. I have no interest in laying bundles around the yard hoping the sun warms them up enough to make them pliable. I have cheap labor available but if my son's are working I want to get things done instead of weeding through shingles trying to find good ones to put on the roof. If I let them check I will find they are all good and everything gets tacked up on the roof.
