To clarify the repair that was made, I will say I believe your 275 has an ammeter, not a voltmeter. A broken ammeter would cause your issue as system current passes through an ammeter, system current does not pass through a voltmeter. An ammeter would be in the wire between the battery power source and the ignition switch (aka wired in series). A voltmeter would be after the ignition switch and one terminal of the meter is powered from a switched terminal. The other terminal of a voltmeter connects to ground, so it is wired in parallel. I have to believe your mechanic replaced the ammeter. Names/terms can be important. There is a difference in the two and the right name would be critical if you were purchasing a replacement on your own in the future.
