I have a new to me TO-30 and it has the cartridge or canister style oil filter. I'm so used to the self contained ones, I almost made a mistake.
Once I got the old filter out, I was ready to slam my new Baldwin P-73 in there, new o-ring, new crush washer and call it good. Then, I stuck my finger in the bottom edge well of the canister, and it came out with about 2 oz of cruddy, semi-solid goo. I got a piece of cardboard, and tore off a strip to go in and scoop it out, and I got another 2-3oz of more goopy goo.
After more scraping, and some carb cleaner, and rags I got all the crud off the inner walls, and the pickup tube in center. If you have a cartridge filter type, and do an oil change by all means, clean that canister out, because five 'll get you ten it hasn't been done for 20 years.
Now all the liars can come on and tell me how they do that religiously every oil change. ya-huh.

After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
