I suffered the trauma of going to a barber when I was a kid. Eventually, I walked on my own to the barber. I remember a haircut was less than a dollar, I think 50 cents with an extra quarter for a tip.
The barbershop eventually merged with the salon next door. One day I went in, was laid back, hair washed, cut, blow dried, styled, and I was asked for $5. I had a heart attack and was certain Id be sweeping floors until I graduated to pay for this. The barber simply smiled, took his usual fare, and said their shop had changed.
I enlisted in the Marine Corps and had my hair cut weekly on base for a long time. Under $2 initially and $4.25 when I left.
One time, I went to get my haircut on base. The only chair open was a gentleman on crutches. No one wanted to go to his chair. I did and during the process of cutting my hair, he slipped on the crutches and drove the clippers into the side of my head so hard you heard the clippers slow.
There was a sign in every base barber , except the one upon your induction, that read if your haircut wasnt to your satisfaction you didnt have to pay. The barber became upset when I refused. When I showed the other Marines there the mark in my head, I asked if Id pass an inspection with this haircut. A loud and resounding NO was the verdict along with a lot of laughter. It was the only haircut I didnt pay for.
I tried to get out of paying for another when the barber sliced a mole off my neck with a straight razor making me bleed like a hemophiliac and ruining a shirt. There happened to be an officer in the shop and he said I had to pay and settle any grievance in civil court. Can you imagine suing for the cost of a haircut and a shirt?
During Kung Flu, my girlfriend started cutting my hair.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
