Had to endure that until it was agreed we could go to a stylist as long as we paid ourselves (Mom and sister always had gone to a hairdresser). Went to the same guy for a few years and thought he made me look good until one day I was walking past a window and saw in my reflection a flap of hair floating up in the breeze. My hairline started receding in my early 20s, which was actually a good thing, as my hair had always been more like straw than hair. He had initiated a combover without telling me- I guess just being tactful. Started parting in the middle and watching the 'part' get wider and wider.
Kept that up for many years- even went thru a ponytail phase in the 90s- until it became obvious I was paying good money to lose an unwinnable battle, so got some clippers and started doing it myself.
