He has posted he is looking to sell it ''on the stump'' as 1200-pound round bales. This would also known as: the grass is standing in the field, the buyer cuts, makes and takes the hay. The OP just collects the money.
He is not making the hay, not looking at small squares, not storing it, or doing it on shares from what he has posted.
Who is fertilizing the fields to maintain quality? Anyone? If the OP is that cost would need to be figured in.
At a minimum if the $5 per bale covers the taxes on the land and the only thing one has to do is collect the money, while setting in the air conditioning or doing things he enjoys, he is breaking even.
Maybe a rental price for the fields would be easier based on past production. Set a price, let the buyer cut when and as he sees fit and make what he wants for type and size bales. If he wants to fertilize a multi-year rental may be best.
