Have not posted a truck picture for some time. This one is a Ford Transit from the late 1960's. At one time it was the best selling light truck in Britain and possibly Europe, coming in many different sizes and with a wide variety of bodies. We had Transit vans to carry spare parts around the farms and Transit trucks to deliver the smaller implements like ploughs and drills. In later years, as tractors and machinery got larger, Transits took over from our Anglia and Escort service vans for on field service. Some were petrol versions with a V4 engine and others, like this one were originally powered by a Perkins 4 cylinder Diesel. This was so under-powered, when loaded, it soon underwent major modification and was fitted with a more powerful unit. With a heavy engine up front and a pick up body on the back, the service boys soon wished for their old vans back as the Transit was not good for travelling across muddy fields.
