what is wrong with it? people seldom do a complete rebuild nowdays with the price of parts and labor. if you do like vet said , you wont have any money left from a 10,000 bill if there was such a thing. just to get the head rebuilt is over 1k and could be 15 hundred depending on what all it needs and if its cracked it could be 2500. so the very first thing is magnafluxing the head. i have been into a few of them. just like on sunday at the pulls. the owner willed his 660 tractor to a girl that pulls there. the guy just had the head done and had a guy install it. next pull tractor ran like chit smoking and missing and sounded like hell. so in the meantime the girls dad took another head and had it rebuilt and they installed it. the dad said something wrong with that head. ok so sunday morning i said to him i want to see you start that tractor. held glow plugs and tractor started very lazily after about 10 seconds of cranking. i said your timing is retarded. bring it over to my truck. so i set the timing to 6 degree's and tried it, holy smokes tractor fired right up. then the girl did her pull and just like a different tractor. so the moral of the story is have a 282 mechanic look it over first before spending 2k for anther head job. and i fixed it with a 9/16 wrench and screwdriver. kinda made my day too. lol.
