I am very saddened to hear of your plight, but there is hope and with God all things are possible. I went through a similar ordeal 8 years ago, BUT not to the extent you are. I was diagnosed with base of tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma in April of 2015. I underwent three Chemo treatments with Cisplatin. One chemo in the beginning one midway and one at the end of a regiment of 39 radiation treatments. I think the radiation was the main thing that cured me. Now eight years later I am still cancer free but it certainly was a life changing event for both my wife and me, I wouldn't have gotten through it without her and believe me there were some very trying times and a lot of tears shed. I got through this without a feeding tube or surgery, just the chemo and radiation. BUT the doctors insisted I intake 2000 calories a day minimum however we could get it into me. Of course my appetite was very weak and the first thing the treatments messed with was my sense of taste, a lot of things did not taste worth a darn. My throat burned as if someone was welding in there and it became very hard to swallow. My wife found some crafty ways to get calories into me. One product she used was Nestle Nido milk it was a milk supplement that athletes and power lifters use. Instead of mixing it with 2% milk or water she made it with whole milk and that doubled the calories. She used this in tuna and noodles, breakfast cereal and mac and cheese. We ended up putting servings in pint wide mouth jars with the calories written on them. We both tracked the daily caloric intake to reach 2000 calories. It was very hard but with her coaching and coaxing we somehow got through it. Towards the end of the radiation treatments I took extra fluid via IV about every other day to stay hydrated. We learned that a Large Cookie Dough Blizzard at Dairy Queen is 1000 calories by itself. Many days on the way to radiation at Lincoln, NE we'd stop at Crete, Nebraska and get me a large blizzard that I was supposed to have down before we got to radiation, (about 30 miles). It sounds like you are of the right, grit, determination and mindset to beat this. If you'd like to talk I'd be glad to visit with you 402-239-8307. Take care and may God Bless you and all of those helping you with this! Jim

Today's Featured Article - Talk of the Town: Winterizing Engines - To Drain or Not to Drain? - by Russ Berry. What is this strange attraction I have to equipment and machinery? How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most ... [Read Article]
