Pretty sure u are correct. You do not use that much on the stuff. Usually its Murphy soap. Just enough to get the bead to seat. I had a similar thing happen also when the blow came to install new tires on my tractor. He was slopping it all over the rim inside with big hand fulls. I said what are u doing? Ooh thats so the rim dont rust. Imagine when stuff gets hard and some has to change the tube its going to be stuck in there. Now I avoid that guy like the plague. When he is behind the counter I ask for the manager. If he is not in I turn around and walk out.
