Barnyard, Just an fyi - for you and others here. The pto output is nearly identical on all the small Fords from the 1939 9Ns till well into the 1980s. You must remove the pto shaft to replace the seal. It's just 4 bolts and the whole pto shaft slides out. Then you can remove the circlip and rear bearing to replace the seal. It is childs play to do but you do have to plan for the 5 gallons of oil that wants to gush out when you pull the pto shaft. Not a big hardship IMO. Photo shows my 3000. His 871 is nearly identical.
