Might be best paying... but SEASONAL. A guy's gotta feed his family the rest of the year too, and you can't afford to keep them on the payroll at that "best paying" rate when the tractors aren't running and the trucks aren't rolling.
So a guy's gotta go out and get a job in town that pays equally well. Unfortunately there are very few town jobs that will let a guy just disappear at the drop of a hat to drive tractors or trucks for the local farmer for days/weeks at a time. Sure a guy can take vacation time but you need to schedule big vacations weeks in advance. Can you predict what the weather is going to be in a month? Sure a fella can quit and find another job after planting/harvest, but after you do that a few times NOBODY is going to want to hire you because you're "unreliable."
