The Ford guys will know for sure, but I always thought those 2000/3000 tractors were great sized machines and durable. If you can find a good rebuilder, you will probably be way better off fixing your current tractor. Weight is a big factor, probably more important than hp. Not sure what you mean by newer. If you are thinking a modern, compact diesel, the amount you spend on rebuilding the 2000 engine might cover the sales tax on one of the shiny new tractors. You will get a nice modern machine that is narrow and tippy, often too light to do the job at hand, and really difficult to work on yourself.
Neighbor had a 29hp NH and it was too small, so he bought another one brand new, 37 hp. He says that even with 1000 lbs in his ballast box it is too light to plow his driveway uphill and is looking for wheel weights. Nice tractor though.
