I think its important to take into consideration the difference in generations. For those who are around my late grandfathers age (80's), the majority of their life was spent around carbs and points. Kids coming onto the scene today probably have never worked on a piece of equipment that even requires those. They would struggle with old stuff as older guys would struggle with trouble shooting the PLC's and computers used to run today's equipment. I wouldn't write off an entire generation, but I think it is important to note that the equipment several generations ago isn't around in the same numbers it was in years past. Old systems being replaced by new ones is a progression of life. I know its sad to think but everything at some point becomes obsolete. Enjoy the stuff that you have and teach a young guy how to fix it if it means something to you. Im glad my grandfather did.
