You mentioning messy dashboards make me vividly remember an experience from years ago. When I was in high school I worked for my buddy's dad on their farm and occasionally had to drive the elder's pickup, an early 80s Chevy. The dash was always covered with various objects - tools, hardware, gloves, coffee cups, notebooks, maybe a box of 22 cartridges, and a bunch of other 'stuff'. One day the traffic on Highway 50 going through Swink was particularly heavy and I was getting tired of waiting for a suitable break in order to cross. A gap in the traffic of slightly less than ideal presented itself so I took the opportunity and gunned it. The flow coming off the dash onto my lap and the floorboard was like a wave at the ocean crashing into the beach. The time I took before stopping to collect everything and put it back was probably the only few minutes in many years that the dash was clean.
