: : : I would like to buy a "Bolens Estate Keeper" that needs to be repaired. This is the Bolens that articulates in the center.Iam told they were powered by a 12hp single cyd engine and were built around 1967. Any information would be appreciated

: : : "cuzin'Jak"

: : I have an 1982 brochure for Bolens and there is a picture of one in there, so they made them as late as 1982 at least

: >> My experience with Bolens stuff has not been favorable. Maybe it would be ok to fix up to look at but I wouldn't expect to use it unless you want a part time job keeping it going. Good luck: Mike Dane

I have a 1963 Bolens GK, which is also articulated in the middle. It has a 16 HP twin cylinder Wisconsin, hydraulic controls and a 60" deck. It also came with a blade that can be steered hydraulically. It is a TANK and is very reliable. I don't understand your comments concerning their reliability, but I guess everyone has different experiences. I try to keep fresh oil in it and keep it lubricated. Also, if anyone needs parts for these older tractors, there is an outfit in Pennsylvania that has almost anything you want. I can provide their phone number if anyone wants it. They would be able to answer any questions concerning the Estate Keeper.

Today's Featured Article - Tractor Generators - by Chris Pratt. As a companion to the articles on three-brush and two-brush generators, it seemed fitting that we should provide our readers with a description of how a generator works in lay terms. The difficulty with all those "theory of operation" texts is that they border on principles of electricity or physics and such. Since I know nothing of either, you will have to put up with looking at the common sense side of how generators work which means we " ... [Read Article]
