If you have to clutch your 4020 to shift it, you don't have a powershift, it's a synchro. the powershift is an 8speed with an inline shift quadrant and no-clutch shifting from neutral thru high gear and 4 reverses. You are describing the shift characteristics of a synchro-range (8+2 or 8+3) transmission with the typical dry clutch. Maybe I misunderstood your previous post describing your tractor. At any rate, we all agree they are good, solid tractors, But I would caution prospective Diesel buyers that some early side console models (1969-70) may still have the short Roosa-Master injection pump that is obsolete in terms of repair parts. If this pump fails, it and the high pressure lines need to be swapped out. $800- $1200.
