Grandpa, Both the 1942 and 1943 Ford-Ferguson System tractors are listed with ; own battery-distributor ignition system, own starter and generator. Tires for the 42, the list would have been printed in 41, listed 8-32 rear and 4-19 front as standard tires. For the 1943 model, which was printed in 1942, steel rear 40X10 with 24 3" or 4" lugs and front 25x5 with 1 3/4" skid band were standard, rubber was 10-28 rear, 4-19 front "when available on priority". Most all manufacturers had steel as standard during the early war years. Most tractors used mags rather than battery ignition at that time and most all I know of continued to offer self starters. I don't know about the frame change you mention on John Deere. Very little engineering changes were made to any tractors during the war and they continued to be built the same with the exception of substituring some materials for critical war materials in certain instances. I'm sure there were exceptions to all of these statements however. Harold H
