Another thing to keep in mind is that while wire of a given gauge has the same outside diameter (of the conductor) it does come in different "grades"...lesser "grades" will use larger individual strands and fewer of them...the better "grades" have thinner individual strands and therefore more of them. This is important because electrons flow on the surface of the conductor and not through the center...so when you have finer individual strands you have more surface area and therefore better current carrying capability another benefit is that finer strands make the wire more flexible. When ever we need a battery cable we make one up from old welding leads..(arc welding)..this type of cable will out perform any battery cable you can buy and really shows in cold weather...(just for grins we went out the other day the temp. was 7 below zero...our IH 140 fired right up without effort). Also when you put crimp connectors on always use a piece of shrink tubing...the tubing should cover the crimped part of the connector and run about an inch up the wire...this will provide suport where the crimp is and lessen the chance of the wire breaking at that point from vibration. Hope that info is of use.
