The 6 cylinder 290 and 300 ford pickup engines have a very low speed torque peak, something like 1500 rpm. Ford made use of that to get long range mileage with tall gearing and overdrive. I test drove one that at 60 I could still feel each cylinder firing. 2.7 rear axle and overdrive. Gerald
