I used a drill mounted fiberglass?brush,(orange bristles,instead of wire)to remove really old paint from tires.cleaned them up pretty good.Followed up with tire paint while they were clean.In the future try painting liquid dishwashing soap on the rubber before you paint,over-spray will wash off,I would'nt use grease.
