The water probably got in through condensation.
I think it's a good idea to flush with a light petroleum base product. I would fill it about half full with mineral spirits (or diesel), then jack up one rear wheel and let it "run" in a low gear for 5 minutes. Then drain the flushing agent, fill with the correct amount of regular lub (what you indicated sounds OK), and let it run for 15 or 20 MORE minutes before putting it under load.
