Shifting Problems 674 IH

I have a 674 IH Diesel with the speed transmission.
I seem to have problems shifting into 3rd gear. It acts like a sticky slide or something, when it goes in it works fine but most of the time it won't go in, it just grinds when the clutch is released. I tried going from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 3rd and get the same result, ruling out a loose linkage problem. Any Ideas??
Any Fixes?
I don't relish the thought of opening it up but if I have to I will.
