Try used 4x4 shocks as a source of chrome shafting. Dealer wanted 700 for steering cyl. for my 76 F250,I cut mine apart,removed the ram and fabricated anouther one from new chrome shafting then welded it back togelther. I used my lathe,but it can be done with a hacksaw,grinder,file and a threading die.
