Check the wear of the paddles in the center of the auger flightings. If they are wore down so you have a fair amount of space between the back of the blower and the paddles then they need to be built up or cut out and replaced. I had this happen on my 40" AC that I use on my Homelite T16 tractor, only I went a step further and replaced the center tube which was bent as well.
