Teaching kids how to drive tractors is like teaching them to do anything else in life. My boys were on my tractors by the time they were 6 and 7 years old but any time they were in control of the running of it, I was right there with them ready to take over if need be. When I felt they had enough practice and I could see they were making right decisions, I allowed them to drive with me on the hay wagon. 1st gear, hand clutch AC WD45, level ground, open field. I'll never forget allowing my 9 year old son drive it home one night after working in a neighbor's field. I had to get the tractor and the truck home so I let him drive the tractor. He did fine, but Mama wasn't too happy with me. Point is, teach the kids the dangers involved, let them practice, and don't give them the total responsibility until they are ready.
