Well, there was more than one type available, and any might be correct. I don't have any info on what dates these were used, but according to my meager information, ("The Farmall System of Farming" re-print) there were the following models. There may well have been some more! Two row models that mounted on sub-frames or tool bars to the left and right of the tractor. There was a support rod running from the top front of the front steering bolster (where the holes are in the grill below the "Farmall" emblem. HM 236 - had round tool bars with barrel clamps HM 238 - had 1"x1.5" rectangular tool bars HM 240 - had 1 7/16" rectangular tool bars with heavier clamps for use in deep tillage operations. These all came with a variety of options in terms of shovels, sweeps, spring teeth, etc. and were available in hand-lift and (I think) hydraulic-lift configurations. Another popular cultivator, especially in the corn-belt areas, was the HM 221 unit. This one mounted with a "quick-tach" set of "hangers on the tractor side rails that accepted a heavy angle-iron front toolbar. This type of cultivator featured steerable front gangs that were controlled by a yoke that attached to the front steering shaft and came out through the hole at the bottom front of the grill. This design allowed for shifting the front gangs to catch hills of corn that were out of line in "checked" corn, or to follow curved rows. Lots of farmers dis-connected this feature and bolted the steering linkage solid. There was also a 4-row unit called an M-448 cultivator that found its way onto a few H models, but those that tried it generally found the H to be a little underpowered. My book also shows a 4 and 6 row beet and bean cultivator.... HM-439 and HM-639, and a model HM-228 disc cultivator.
