It works just like a negative ground system - just oposite polarity. If it's working OK there is no good reason to change it. 6 Volt systems are more sensitive to problems with high lead resistance and poor connections. Most stock 6 volt tractors will work just fine on a 6 volt, positive ground system, if they get a little basic routine maintenance like tune-ups and cleaning battery terminals. Where the 6 volt systems are weak is on bigger tractors, with larger engines, especially when they are overhauled with overbore kits and higher compression ratios. 12 volts is just more efficient at delivering enough power to the starter at these higher load demands. If you change to a 12 volt alternator system you are usually forced to change over to negative ground since alternators tend to be negative ground. Some people get all worked up over this question, but there is no electrical advantage in either positive or negative ground, one is as good as the other.

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned. But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out. After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
