i've seen a sales picture (northern hydraulic?) of a small unit mounted where the rear bumper should have been. if i remember, it had two stablizers (trailor jacks) that jacked straight down from the corners of the truck. the boom pivot was mounted off center of the rear of truck. probably to get a more strength at the end of one of the truck frame rails and give it more side reach from the truck. i think they were discontinued. there's a guy in Virginia that has pretty good cad drawings for a tow behind backhoe. cadplans.com? might have to do a google search.
