There are a lot of options in tractors in that price range. I'm assuming by new you mean new to you and not new as in never been used. Here are some of the options: **Grey market tractors can fall in that range, they are used compact tractors that are imported from overseas. **Shopping around will get you a pretty good list of utility type tractors in this range, i.e., Ford 600,800, 601, 801 series; Case 311, 430, 880, etc; David Brown 880; IH 300U, 350U, 284, etc; Allis Chalmers D10, D12, D14, D15, WD45, CA, etc; John Deere 1010, 420, 520; Massey Ferguson 35, 50, 135, etc; Long 445U, 510, 560, etc; and a host of others. These machines are either 3 point hitch, or can be converted to 3 point hitch. No matter what the budget is the first order of business is determine what you will need the machine to do, then locate a machine to fit those needs. Keep in mind that individuals tend to be cheaper than dealers, but if you can't do a lot of service work yourself or get a friend to help a dealer could be very important. Things that are very handy to have on any machine are independent PTO, Live hydraulics, power steering, as well as the previously mentioned three-point hitch. I recommend using the boards at YTMag as a reference, i.e., if you go out to look at an IH 350U go to the IH board and ask what you need to look for, when you return describe the condition to them and what area of the country you reside. In many cases they will be able to help you identify problem areas that need to be looked for in advance, and tell you if it is a decent price for the machine. http://www.tractortips.com will give you some basic information such as HP, years of manufacture, etc of many machines. It is sometimes inaccurate, but is a good place to start. The link below takes you to a website that is handy to use for searching for machines. Searches are returned based on proximity to you, which is determined when you register (it is free).

When Push Comes to Shove - by Dave Patterson. When I was a “kid” (still am to a deree) about two I guess, my parents couldn’t find me one day. They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
