Shoot the messinger? Hardly! Where do you think I got the idea of asking this question. I saw one or two too many posts about tractors with gas engines being "thirsty" and I got to thinking--- My 70, however, is never worked hard enough to worry about how much gas it guzzles, although I have no doubt that perhaps 5 gal/hr would dissapear from it's tank if I were to really work it! Fuel consumption in tractors is measured in hp-hrs/gal. I think that a 70 gas is about 10hp-hrs/gal and @ 50 hp, that is 5 gal/hr. My example MM G1000gas is 110 hp, with about the same rating of 10-11 hp-hrs/gal so it would devour 10-11 gal/hr. ( which is much more than my 70 would burn )! I think that the 806 or a 4020 would be a little less than this---say 8-9 gal/hr but I'm not sure. I do know that our 66hp 3020gas burns 5-6 gal/hr ( 5 gal baling hay, 6 gal or more when plowing). It was the main reason for getting a 4020D! I didn't really need 95 hp, but the fuel economy is SO much better!

Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
