I have neighbour that has been to Cuba for vacation quite a few times now. He is a farmer as I am and he was interested in ag equipment they might use. The only tractors that he mentions are from Russia, many do not run. He was also puzzled to see most parked pointing down a hill or man made ramp. He asked a local why they did this, and the Cubans reply was because they lacked batteries or the starter had crapped out. Spare parts for most anything were unavailable. Many things are done the old fashion way, lots of sweat. He even asked a fellow why they cut the grass along the roads by hand and the replywas what else would he have to do! Cars there are held together with bale wire and a prayer, use what will ever work,or kind a work.My friend spoke of a Taxi using gasoline to start and they switching it over to some home made affair that that run the cab on Kerosene.
