There is a partial cure for the loader awkwardness problem. Depending on the make/model of loader, you can drop the bucket and/or the loader boom when you don't need them. The modern QC loaders are a snap to remove, most of the older ones its easier to just unpin the bucket. Of course, if the loader was seriously abused in a former life, things may be so warped that it takes an act of God to line things up when you re-install. I generally remove the boom from my Massey 175 for haying, then depending on other jobs, put it back on, and just drop the bucket when it's time to do second cut. Takes about an hour to remove and store the boom, (load it on a trailer and park it in the woods). The bucket I can take off in about 10 minutes, about twice that to replace it. Yes it's a pain, but better than bouncing the loader around while haying on 80 acres. The loader also tends to take too much weight off the rear wheels when going downhill, especially with a baler and wagon behind.
