Mark, I am assuming your sickle is driven by a pitman shaft. If so, look carefully at the ball at the driven end of the sickle bar where it is attached to the pitman shaft, typically by two clamshell type halves that clamp horizontally to the ball. This is a high wear joint and mine does not have a zerk fitting. Instead it has a hole in the top of the ball specifically for oiling that joint (the ball is cross-drilled half way down). Sure, the oil doesn't last long either there or along the knives and wear plates. That is why the directions are to oil "every hour" in extreme conditions. I don't know...I oil mine...that's what the manufacturer recommends. Perhaps your configuration is not like mine. At least you are getting different opinions to choose from :o).
