Before I retired I decided I would open a small shop as I had the equipment and figured it would be a good second job. I advertised in phone book. (Best advertising I ran across). Big mistake, I didn't have the time and it ruined a hobby. You can make money, there is a need for small shops if you have decent turn around. You need someone to handle the counter so you can work. I gave it up and it took years before I enjoyed working with my machine shop tools again. Now it getting to be fun again. Watch it, you can ruin a good hobby.
