All I can say is, I've used mine HARD and often, and have seen absolutely no indication of any damage to the tractor.

In at least one instance the damage to the tractor (another Kubota, I think) was traced to an inconsistent casting with thin spots.

That having been said, subframes are a good idea, particularly if you can afford to mount the hoe and leave it mounted, or find a subframe system that isn't a major PITA to get on and off. I'm not aware of such a frame system for my '88 750, unfortunately.
