Geometry for a scissor lift

Hi, I`m wondering if any of you good folks know how to determine the geometry for a simple scissor lift to be used on a homebuilt dump trailer. I`ve seen the kits to convert a trailer or pickup, but once you`ve invested that much, you might as well buy the whole trailer built for you. For the limited amount of need I have I can`t justify the expense, but it would make a good project if I knew where to start. TIA, Russ
