Tim's wife here. We have to farm or produce someting for 3 years and show an average of $2500 a year, gross.
We moved from an area where we could walk to the store, library, swimming pool and schools. We have 10 acres and are 14 miles from the closest town and grocery. Even when we lived in the suburb, we heated our home with a wood burning stove. The fact that we could hear our neighbors phone ring, or hear them sneeze on the back porch bothered us greatly. We gave up a 2000 sq ft home to buy our 24x40 ft home in the country. I gave up my job and stay home. This has allowed me to become more involved in my child's school, but we have to make up my loss of income. Again, we heat with a stove and I spend alot of time splitting wood and getting up at night to feed it so the furnace won't run. We have neighbors that have anywhere from 10 acres to 70 and I am pleased to say we have not had to try to fit in because everyone we have met has been different from the next. I don't know who came up with the idea all country folk are the same.
Even with all the hard work and cutting back on things this move has been the best thing we have ever done. Amy PS no we don't drive Mercedes (how bout a 7 year old saturn and a mini-van?)
